About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 hour visa free transit hour calculation.

I am scheduled to fly from Hong Kong to Shanghai on January 22nd and then leave for Toronto on 25th. However I have just been informed by Hong Kong dragon air that Shanghai uses exact flight arrival schedule to start the 72 hours, not 00:00 the day following the entry date, so they refused my request because I would be 4 hours over. What gives?!

Hi Edmond! There are many airports in China calculating the 72-hour layover period from the midnight following the entry date indeed. However, the period should be calculated in accordance with the sheduled arrival and departure in principle. I heard that someone say the period is calcuted from the following midnight after arrival at Shanghai Airport. Nevertheless, the airline has the final say. As long as you can persuade it to allow you board the plane, there won't be problems I think. Just for your reference.
