Visa for China from Hong Kong

do I need to get an entry permit for China, I am intending a short trip to Beijing and Xian when I am in Hong Kong in February. Will I need to apply before I leave UK or can it be done in Hong Kong?

May be it can be done in Hong Kong, but not easier than in the US. As it is said that only those who hold residence permit of HK can submit the application there, otherwise you have to turn to an agency for help. Therefore, if you have enough time, I suggest you apply it through CVASC in the UK before your departure.
