About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

American citizen wants to travel from Hong Kong to Shanghai and return two days later

I am traveling directly to Hong Kong from USA. Can I take a flight from Hong Kong to Shanghai for a two night stay and return to Hong Kong under the 72 hour policy? I would stay in a Shanghai Hotel.

Thank you

Sorry, you can't enjoy 72 hours free transit because you fly from HK to Shanghai and then back to HK again.
