American family traveling in Paris and looking to obtain a Chinese tourist visa

We are an American family traveling in Paris. It looks from this website that a Chinese consulate would possibly approve such an application. How much time and funds should I expect to spend for a tourist type for our family of six (kids ages 12, 10, 10, 10). Is there an English-speaking phone number or agency to call with questions?
