About:Embassy & Consulates of Germany in China

Hi, my mom is a USA perm resident with a Chinese passport. Can she apply for a German visa in China?

My mom will be traveling in China for 3 months and unfortunately will not have enough time to apply for a German visa in the USA before her departure to China. When she returns from China, she only has 5 days until her travel date to Germany. So I was wondering if she could apply while she is in China. Again, she holds a Chinese passport and US permanent resident card. Thanks.

Yes, she can apply it in China. As a rule, applicants must submit applications, together with all necessary documents, in person at the German mission responsible for their place of residence. In order to avoid time‑consuming requests for additional information or documentation, applicants should consult the website of the respective mission well in advance of their departure date to find out about the application procedure and about the documentation which has to be submitted. The fee is Euro 60 and the process takes two to ten working days.

Hello, thanks for the response. I understand as a rule she should apply at the consulate location based on her residence. That's why I'm asking if an exception can be made due to her circumstances. She will not have enough time to apply at her designated consulate location. Thus wondering if she can apply at a different consulate location outside the USA. Unless there is a way to expedite the process?

It's OK for your mom to apply it in China since she holds a Chinese passport. If you want to apply in the USA, you should check whether the Germany consulate there offers express services.
