Will be in Beijing for 2 weeks but will have free time at night and on the weekend.

Where is the best place to purchase nice quality but inexpensive pearls?

Oh, you can go to Hongqiao Market. There are lots of stores that sell beautiful pearl products. These products have good quality and reasonable price. You can go and see.
The market is located at the no.46, East Tiantan Road, Dongcheng District. Hope you like. :-)
Oh, and do bargain there in case of being overcharged.
