I am British and booked on a cruise stopping for two days in Shanghai

Will a copy of the cruise itinerary and proof that I am booked and paid be sufficient evidence of my arrival and departure to allow me to obtain a visa?

Chris, I think you may apply for a G type one if you have the itinerary and departure ship ticket.

Yes. You can apply for 144 hr free transit if the countries coming into and leaving from Shanghai are not the same.
