About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Procedure for leaving china? Can I go to PSB myself to cancel TRP or does my employer need to go?

When should this be done? I am leaving before contract period due to illness. Will I have any trouble leaving China if employer doesnt expedite my visa cancellation? How long does the process take?

Patty, your employer can't cancel your temporary resident permit. However, he can go to local labor bureau to cancel your work permit and report your situation to local entry and exit management bureau. Then the bureau might cancel your TRP. If your employer didn't rereport to local entry and exit management bureau, you can still stay with your TRP until it expires.

You needn't be worried if your TRP is really expired. In that case, you can apply for a temporary L type if you can't leave immediately.
