Question concerning 65 age limit for a work visa

I have a request from my former company(I retired from this company) to become a Pre-commissioning manager for a new facility that is currently being constructed in China. I have 35 years experience in my field and was a regional specialist with this company. The management position I have been requested to undertaken will probably take 1 year to completed and bring the facility on line. My problem is that I am now 66 years old (Brithday in Sept) and with China having the 65 year old age limit for work Z I am not sure how if myself and/or the company can request an exception to allow me to get my work Z and work permit.

So I have two questions related to the above age limit issue:

1. Is there any type of exceptions granted by the Chinese immigration department to allow personnel who are over the 65 year age limit, but with specialized skills to obtain a work Z for at least a 1 year time period?

2. If the above isn't possible, since I currently have a consulting company in Thailand that does a lot of consulting work for that company would it possible for the consulting company to apply for a work Z allowing me to go in and out as a consultant (probably work there 4 weeks then off 4 to six weeks)?

Robert, if your company is willing to help you apply for the work permit, you still have chances to get it. According to the related rules, if the foreigners over 65 are invited to work as vice general manager, general manager or any other positions higher than the mentioned before, the company can try to apply for the work permit. However, it doesn't guarantee that they can apply for the work permits successfully.
