Visa for China as backpacker

Hello
I'm on a long journey. I want to go to Australia without to take a Plane. Currently I'm in South Korea and not able to get one for China, because I never went to China before. Would i be able in Japan? I have a Friend in China who could send me an Invitation letter if needed. Also I can book some Hostels ahead, if needed. Because I want to visit Hongkong, i would need a Dual entry one. Do I have to book all border crossing Train tickets ahead?

Thanks a lot for your help!

You are able to try to apply in Japan. If your friend can write you an invitation letter, the hotel bookings are not necessary. With your friend's invitation letter, the leaving ticket for HK is not necessary.

Before you go to Japan, you are suggested to consult the local Chinese embassy for confirming.

Unfortunately the Information are not correct. I need to show hotel reservations, entry and leaving tickets and even a address certification from Switzerland.
