day trip from shenzhen - hong kong - shenzhen the same day using shenzhen voa

We're planning to visit a friend in Shenzhen for a couple of days using a Shenzhen VOA. Then go sightseeing Hong Kong for a day and the same day return to Shenzhen and apply for a new VOA? Is there any restriction on how frequently / how many times one may apply for a Shenzhen VOA?

There is no such frequency requirement based on the rules, but you may get rejected to enter Shenzhen on your second time. In my opinion, you are suggested to apply for a multiple entry Tourist L for your trip to avoid troubles in advance.
