Will we qualify for the 24-hour free transit?

Holding a US passport:

Chicago - (nonstop) - Beijing (layover 36 hours) - (nonstop) - Tokyo (layover 6 hours) - (nonstop) - Chicago

Since you stay in Beijing for 36 hours, you are not qualified for the 24-hour free transit, but you are qualified for the 72-hour free transit in Beijing.
