15 hour stopoever between planes in shanghai

Hi you wrote in the list of things to do in the sequence 'pick up your luggage' Im thinking of booking a flight from the Philipines to Nz and it has a 15 hour wait between planes in Shanghai - i was thinking it could be a good ticket to get as it gives me the opportunity to see Shanghai - or is there a problem with being able to use the transit visa for this?
