Extend X2 Visa

Back in my home country I got a 90 days X2 for my internship in Beijing. Now I want do do another internship and have to extend X2 for 90 more days.
Is it possible do extend it even though I am not an actual student and therefore can't prove my student status?

If so, you are hardly to get your extension for your second internship. A introduction letter is needed from a school for extending the X2. If you are not a student, you cannot get the letter.

What if I get a letter for a fake language course from my old university in Shanghai? Will I be able to extend my X2 in beijing with an invitation from a shanghai university?

Based on the rules, you had better to go to the Shanghai Exit-Entry Adminstration Bureau and they will provide you a suitable type to leave China.

For extending X2 in Beijing, it may be impossble. If you can have an invitation letter from Beijing, you can try to apply a new type in Beijing based on their invitation letter.
