It is required to have one to visit China.
You are suggested to apply for a F type for your visiting. You can prepare your valid passport, an application form, a recent taken photo, an invitation letter from the expo, your bank statement or working proof to apply for it.

After you submit the documents, you will get a slip from the embassy. After four working days, you can take the slip to pick up your passport at the Chines embassy.
