About:China Private Visit Visa

S1 VISA HOLDER

My husband and I are currently employed in China, we have z types and resident permits. Our three children have just joined us and they have all been issued with s1 ones. My son is 20 years old and will be 21 years in December. He too has a s1 type. Please advise me about the procedure since his S1 states that he must apply for a resident permit within 30 days. We would like him to stay in China with us during our stay. Please advise me further.

If all your childrens get S1, you need to change all of their S1 to a resident permit.
To change it, the following documents are needed: their valid passports, an application form, a recent taken photo, Valid Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors, health report, the kinship relationship (birth certificate for children). Then you can take all these documents to local Exit-Entry Adminstration Bureau for applying.

BTW, you need to consult the Exit-Entry Adminstration Bureau for their appointed places to get a health report.

Thank you for providing me with the documents that we may need to obtain a resident permit. I, however require clarity on one more matter concerning my son. Usually a S1 is issued for children under the age of 18. My son will be 21 years old soon. I'm told that he cannot obtain a resident permit because he is over the age of 18. Please advise me.

It is not assured. It is unclear that how can get the S1, so it cannot be confirmed.
Based on the rules, the resident permit for S1 can also be issued to those who intends to handle their private affairs. If he can prepare a document to proof that he plans to do something in Chin, he can still get the resident permit. You can still go to your local Exit-Entry Adminstration Bureau for asking.

If he cannot get a resident permit, the bureau will issue him a S2 with certain duration of stay. He then can renew it to stay in China for a long time.
