About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Vietnam -> Beijing -> Sandiego but a layover in Shanghai.

Hello. My flight is HoChiMin city to Beijing and then out of Beijing to Sandiego 2 days later. However, the flight from Vietnam to Beijing has a stop in Shanghai for a few hours. Will I be able to utilize the transit policy in Beijing like I have planned or does it only apply to Shanghai?
Thank you.

Since you will have another stop in Shanghai, you are unable to enjoy the 72-hour free transit. This policy is only available for those making transfer in only one airport in one available city in China. For your trip, you may need to apply for a Transit G in advance.
