can we extend the s2 visa in china?

My spouse is currently holding S2 in China,can he extend it or can he transfer the S2  to Z? without exiting the country,as it is mention as single entry!

It is available to apply the S2's extension and it is almost impossible to change the S2 to a Work Z. However, if you want to have a try, you can try to apply through an agency and probably get a positive result.
