About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Informing the airline with regards to the transit visa

"they should make sure put forward transit permit requests to the carrier airlines in advance, so that the airlines can declare it to the airport customs before landing."

So if I book with China Southern Airlines via Orbitz or Expedia, I should email the airline directly after concerning the above statement?

No, it is not needed.

May I know which airport you will use for transfering? If it is the Beijing airport, you do not need to tell the airline. If it is other airport, you just need to tell the airline staff when you check in.
