Applying for M type with Canadian Passport and original Chinese passport, how???

I've never got a M on my Canadian passport and I have an original Chinese passport (I was born in China). I want to apply for M in the US but was told by US consulate that, for the first Chinese visa, you have to do it in Canada because you have a Canadian passport. So I mailed the passport back to Canada and a friend is submitting the forms for me, Canada consulate then says it might get rejected because the company is in US and I'm not physically in Canada to apply for it.
So my question is: is there a way to get around this? Can I get a M type first in Canada and then right away get a M type here in US???

Hi, Alex. Personally speaking, you can choose to apply my mail. For applying in Canada, you need to apply through the local CVASC, which provides mail application service. So you can choose it to apply your M type. You can search the official website of CVASC for more information.
