Tom, I think it's easier for your to exit mainland China. You can go to HK or Macau for a very short time and then renter China. It takes around a week to deal with your extension application. And you should apply at least 7 days before it expires.

After you get your double entry L type, you can rearange your scheduled flights according to your actual itinerary. But you should enter China before your visa expires. Usually, it is marked as "Enter Before XXX". You must enter China before that date.

Dear Robin , i already get the it ,its double entry L visa. and as you know for double entry one its valid for 30 days each entry, as i have double entry so i can stay in China for 60 days, now i am planning to book my air ticket which would be 03-11-2014 - 01-01-2015,during this period i don't want to exit from china i would like to extend my visa for 30 days. my question is for example I enter in china on 3rd November and I apply for the extension on 25 Nov,So Immigration Office will extend my double entry type from 25 Nov to 24 DEC ? or they will consider the date of expiry of which is 1st Dec. 3 Nov to 2 Dec 30 days and then 2 Dec to 1 January ? I you will understand what i exactly want to know, thanks

Usually, the extension starts from the applying date. It means if you apply on Nov. 25 and your approval get acceptable, the extension starts from the Nov 25 and lasting around 30 days. It will expires on Dec 24.

i see, can i apply before one day of its expiration? or it's compulsory before one week i must apply for the extension ?

It is compulsory to apply for an extension seven days in advance.
