You do not need to do the tour with an organized tour. Usually travelers can get a single entry Tourist L with a duration of stay for around 30 days, so it can cover your trip in China.

Since you will stay two weeks in China, you are not qualified for the 72-hour free transit. This policy is only available for those who are making international transfering.
