what is the penalty of overstaying in china?

hello.what if i will be overstaying in china for a year and work there but no working visa?would it be fined?put in jail?

Yep, You will be fined quite heavily and probably receive a jail sentence as well, After which you will be banned from China and very probably Hong Kong as well. Don't be stupid, get the correct work visa before you come to China. It is illegal to work in any country without a work permit, why do you think China is different?
