San Francisco to Shang Hai and want to apply for a VOA

My grandfather is sick and I would like to go see him as soon as possible, If I buy a flight to China for tomorrow, would the visa on arrival apply to me, would I need a note from the hospital, and how much would it be for me to obtain one (I would be flying into Shanghai).

It is possible to get a VOA at the Shanghai airport. But before that, you are suggested to contact the local Chinese embassy/consulate and the Shanghai airport for a detail procedure about how to get a VOA.

Basically speaking, you need show a certificate of diagnosis from the Chinese hospital together with the hospital's address and phone number.

The fare probably is 168RMB for a single entry.
