About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hong Kong to Shanghai to Beijing to Brazil.

Hello

I will be travelling to China from Brazil on an F single entry. I will enter China and be there for a week. At the end of the week, I will will fly from Shanghai to Hong Kong (ie exit China) and be there for a few days. I will then need to fly back to Shanghai at 11:00 morning (on China Eastern) and then catch my return flight (Air China) which leaves from Shanghai at 19:00 on ward to Beijing and leaves Beijing at 00:00 that night.

My questions are:

1. Will I need to exit Shanghai international area to collect my bags from the China Eastern flight and re-check them for the Air China flight?

2. If yes, will my single entry type cause a problem here or will I fall under the 72 hour free transit?

3. Lastly, if I do fall under the 72 hour free transit, do I just exit and then re-check in (air china flight) or do I need to go somewhere (or talk to some offical) to apply for the 72 hour free transit?

Thank you for your assistance.

Since you use two different airlines, you may need to collect and then re-check. But you are still suggested to contact the airline for confirming with the airline.

Your back trip from HK - Shanghai - Beijing - outside China cannot enjoy the 72-hour free transit, because you make transfer in two cities in China. However, your staying time in China is less than 24 hours, you can enjoy the 24-hour free transit. In this way, a single entry Tourist L is still enough.

Under the 24-hour free transit, you will need to apply for a stay permit at the immigration counter and then exit and re-check.

Thank you so much for your reply. Where do I need to apply for a stay permit? In Hong Kong before I travel with China Eastern or when i arrive in Shanghai? Also, I do not understand the difference between the 24 hour free transit and the 72 hour hour free transit? Thank you once again for your help!

You need to apply for the stay permit when you arrive in Shanghai.
