About:China Visa

Do I need a single or multi entry visa for my itinerary?

I will be flying into Shanghai and then immediately out of Shanghai to Hong Kong, and then back to Shanghai a few days later. My flight getting into Shanghai and then the flight leaving for Hong Kong are not connected, so I would have to collect my bags and then check-in for the Hong Kong flight. In between these flights would I be going through immigration, and so technically entering China only to leave a few minutes later? Does this then mean I need a double-entry type (as I return to Shanghai a few days later) or will a single entry be okay?

Personally speaking, one entry is OK.

When you make the transfer in Shanghai airport, you need to go through the immigration to collect the luggage and then check-in. When you pass the immigration, you can tell the officer that you just make a transfer at the airport and show them your onward ticket to HK as well as your passport. If your transfering time is no more than 24 hours, I think you can pass the immigration without a Transit G and it will not affect your single entry one for entering shanghai later.

Anyway, it is still suggested to consult the officer in your local embassy when applying for a single entry one.
