Upon reaching China, you need to go to the nearby PSB to register and then you can get a Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors. Then within 30 days, you can apply resident permit at the local PSB with an application, a recent taken photo, your Registration Form of Temporary Residence, your valid passport with Q1, kinship certificate, the ID card or household register book of the one you visit in China, health certificate and other requirements the PSB requires.
The exact processing time is a little bit different for different cities. If you apply in big cities such as Beijing, Shangha, it is around 15 working days as usual to get the permit in the end. The fee is different based on your validity of your permit. If you apply for a less than one-year permit, the fee is 400RMB per time. It is 800RMB for a one-year one to no more than three-year one and 1000RMB for a three-year one to five year one.
