About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Canada permanent resident with Filipino passport want to enjoy the 72-hour free transit

Good Afternoon,

Me and my boyfriend are planning to visit our country Philippines from Toronto. Since we're stopping over at Shanghai airport we're thinking of staying there for a few days to visit the country. I've read that there is a 72 hrs free transit if we're travelling by air but you can't leave the transit city and we want to visit Great Wall of china (Beijing). I am a Canadian citizen (canada passport) while my boyfriend is still Filipino citizen (filipino passport) but he's a permanent resident of Canada; still waiting for his citizenship. What are our options? Do we need transit visas? If so, how much does that cost? Let me know

Thanks,
Eizvone

For you, you can enjoy the 72-hour free transit with your valid passport and onward ticket to Phlippine. For your bf, he cannot enjoy this policy because of his passport. If he just stay in China for no more than 24 hours, he does not need a Transit G, otherwise, he needs to apply for a Transit G in advance. The fee is 92 Canadin dollars.

BTW, under the 72-hour free transit policy, you cannot leave Shanghai for visiting Great Wall in Beijing. So if you want to see it, you need to make your transfer in Beijing Airport.
