Do I need to see the Chinese Consulate?

My dad owns a house in China. I need to sell the house on his behalf because he cannot travel. Do I need to see the Chinese consulate? Any suggestion on how to go about this process?

You are right. The power of attorney from your father needs to be notarized and authenticated at local consulate/embassy.

The procedure is a little bit complex, so you are suggested to find the detail information on the official website of Chinese embassy in USA for more.
