From a 90 days business visa to a Work Z

Hi, I'm Canadian citizen and working in China on a 90 days single entry visa.

My company is preparing all docs that I need to apply on the Z type.

My question is : Do I have to go back to Canada to apply on the Z type or I can do it from Thailand or HongKong.
