About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Cruise ship and Visa requirement

Do we have same 72 hour free transit if we arrive in Shanghai on plane and board cruise ship 2 days later for 14 day cruise stopping for day trip in Beijing on way to Japan.

Sorry, 72 hours free transit is only for those who fly in and out of China. Cruise trip isn't ok. In your situation, I think you should apply for a L type in advance.
