About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I fly into Macao then plan to take a train to Guangzhou airport

I have a confirmed ticket on China airlines to leave Guangzhou airport 48 hours after my train trip from Macao. Can I use the 72 hour visa ?

Since you will take a train from Macau to Guangzhou, you cannot enjoy the 72-hour policy. That policy is only available for passengers who transfer at the airport only. You may need to apply for a Transit G in advance.
