About:China Transit Visa

Transit Air travel to Cruise ship, enjoy policy?

We arrive in Shanghai by air. we are then booked on a cruiseship out of shanghai about 70 hours later. Does the 72 hour transit visa cover this?

You cannot enjoy the 72-hour free transit, since you reach China by flight and leave by cruise. The 72-hour policy is only available for passengers using flighs reaching and leaving China.
For your situation, you need to apply for a transit type for transfering.
