About:China Visa Exemption

Do I need to apply a transit type when I transit in beijing?

Hi, I planned to book air china flight from Singapore to New york via Beijing. I have transit time of 17 hours and plan to stay one night in beijing before my next flight. I hold indonesian passport and may I get visa exemption for stay less than 24 hours? It is mentioned that the 24 hour free stay is applicable only in specified transit area? Which area is that? how does that work? Thanks!

If you transit less than 24 hours, you needn't apply for a G type. If you plan to get out of the airport during your stay, you just need to apply for a stay permit at the airport. Yes, you need to stay at the international transit area if you don't want to exit the airport.
