About:China Train

Datong to Erlian

I like to go from Datong to Erlian. Any mode of public transport (shared taxi, bus, train) is acceptable. Please advise whether all these modes are available. Travel in September.
Can I buy ticket at Datong railway station for Zamiin-Uud to UlaanBaatar ?

there are only buses from Datong to Erlian.
you can not buy the ticket in Datong for Zamiin-Uud to UlaanBaatar. the ticket is issued by the Mongolian railway, so you can only buy the ticket after you arrive in Mongolia.

the buses only run in daytime form datong to Erlian, and it takes 6 - 7hours.
I don't think you can get ticket at Erlian station the Mongolia sector, unless you book through a travel agency. Actually, you can buy the ticket upon your arrival at Zamiin-Uud station.

Yes, but i heard there is only one bus from Datong Railway Station to Erlian, and it leaves around 8:00am. I suggest that you confirm with the staff the day before your departure.

If there is only one bus leaving early in the morning, then I have to spend a day on the road. Might as well take the train to Jining and connect to the one going to Erlian. Am I correct?

Yes, you are right. I also thing travel to Jining and then Erlian by rail is a good choice.
