Visa required for transit to DPRK?

In August I will be teaching in DPRK for one week. I travel from Amsterdam to Beijing. On the day of arrival in Beijing (25/8) I will collect my visa at the DPRK Embassy in Beijing and on 26/8 I will fly from Beijing to Pyongyang. On 2/9 I will return from Pyongyang to Beijing in the morning and to Amsterdam in the evening. I hold a Netherlands passport. Do I require one for China for this trip?
Thank you.

It is not needed for transitting, for both of your transitting is qualified for the 72-hour free transit policy.

Hello. I have kind of the same problem, and what does not make it better is that I work for media. I want to use the 72 hour transit rule to pick up my DPRK visa in Beijing. Some sources say I need the valid DPRK's already in my passport when entering Beijing, some say the rule does not apply for people traveling to the DPRK, some say it should be no problem at all. Has anybody experience with this? Thanks a lot!

Based on my experience, you can apply for a stay permit with your passport and flight tickets with confirmed seats to DPRK.

If you want to get an more exact answer, you can call the Immigration Department in Beijing airport for asking. Their phone number is 0086-10-56095400.
