Hey there, great thread with helpful information, thanks! My situation:I have a year long scholarship to Sichuan University starting in September 2014, but am flying into Beijing on 27 July. I am going to London on 15 Aug to see friends and will return on 6 September to commence class registration and study.This would be fine aside from the fact that a 30 day tourist one is strictly single entry! So I need to get onto my X1 with a double entry ASAP, as there is just over two weeks between arriving in Beijing and flying out for London. Do you think this possible? As long as the Sichuan University visa office is open, the temporary residence form is all good and my medical forms are accepted - I hope it will be fine? I am going to call Sichuan University today. If their office is not open - am I able to go directly to Chengdu PSB myself?Thanks allKristen

Hi, X1 type can not be issued with double entry neither. But if you enter China with X1, you can apply for residence permit asap after registration if the school visa office is open. Then the permit can be used as multiple entry.

Hi Roy. It seems I need to transform my X type into a temporary residence permit, which will then allow me multi entry. Do you know if this process can be done at the Chengdu PSB instead of Sichuan University? I have all the documentation.

You cannot go to the Chengdu PSB to transfor your X1 into a temporary residence permit. For getting the permit, you need to get registered in your university and then the university will give you a introduction letter. You need to take this introduction letter to get your residence permit.
