About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need a visa if I am flying from Singapore-Chengdu-Singapore for less than 72hrs? USA passport.

Yes, you need to apply for it in advance because your trip is a round trip.

Still you need to apply for a visa. Because your itinerary is return trip, but not a direct transit via China.
