We are going to Beijing and Tianjin end of the year.

Is a 2D1N duration sufficient enough to visit TJ city in general?
Can most popular tourist places in the city be accessed by subway?
Which is the better place to put up the night?

Yes, 2D1N is enough to cover the main scenic spots in TJ. Buses and subway should be best used for sightseeing. And I recommend you stay near Binjiang Avenue (Bin Jiang Dao) in Heping District. The transportation there is very convenient and hotels don't charge high.
