Non legal US resident that has an invitation to come to China by Chinese citizen

I live in the US and have completed my bachelor of science here. I was brought into the US as a small child and have never returned to my home country. I have been given a business opportunity in China and have all my paper work in line including an invitation into China and a passport from my country of birth. Do I need to leave the US in order to obtain my visit to travel into China? Is there any other option? I am 25 and have never been to my birth country after I was 3 years old.

Do you have any document showing your residency in the US? I think it is ok for you to apply in the US if you have any.

FYI - They may not let u back into the US if you intend to, though, without possession of a valid & up to date visa/naturalization papers/or US passport. Might want to look into that as well... If your status isn't up to date & legal in the US I believe you could risk detainment & possible deportation by US immigration checkpoints. Hope that's helpful :)

I do not possess any valid US documentation. I understand that I will not be given entry once I leave. The plan is to work in China for a minimum of 5 years then maybe return with a tourist visa to see my family. The job I'm acquiring is being offered by a good friend of mine, who owns his companies. Would the PRC require me to obtain my visit from my home country? Thanks for the response.

Yes, you can go back to your home country to apply your Z type since you have your home country's passport, but do not pocess any valid US documents.
Personnally speaking, you are suggested to consult with your local General Consulate in USA and the Chinese embassy for confirming before your application, so that you can do it once without causing you many troubles.

BTW, I should remember, you need to ask a Foreigners Employment Permit from your friend's company in China, otherwise, you cannot even get your Z from your country.
