About:China Customs Declaration

Currency and Custom Declaration

I am confused about the 20.000 RMB, because some other websites states that chinese cash aren't allowed to bring into the country? So is it cash or travel checks? My plan is to exchange cash here in Denmark to Yuan, because I can do that for free, without exchange fee, so that is why I am so confused about it. I will be traveling for 2 month, to other countries as well, so I will have a lot of foreign valuta, would that be a problem? The Custom Declaration is that given in the airplain like when traveling to Japan, or how do you get it?

You can carry as much as 20000 RMB or 5000 USD cash in total. If you exceed the limit, you should declare to the customs immediately.

I am confused still I most say because of the "or"...because 20000RMB is not = 5000$, so does that mean you are allowed 20000 RMB plus 5000$ in foreign currency or is it either 20000 RMB or 5000$ ??? Because I can get all my allowance with me in foregin currency if the 20000 RMB is included in the 5000$, but it they are not, I can't take RMB with me???

Either! If you take along Chinese yuan, it should be nor more than 20,000RMB. If you take USD, it should be within 5000$.

To be honest, the customs regulation doesn't specify this clearly. However, I read a piece of news, which quoted a word from the customs officer. Passengers can take as much as 20000 RMB and 5000 USD. It means that you can take 20000 RMB and 5000 USD at most.
