Going to Guangzhou to visit a friend for 15days

I am a british citizen and am planning a visit to Guangzhou to see a friend whos been living there for the last year or so. What type of visa do I need and can I get one for 15 days? I will be staying with him but will most likely travel to Macau and Hong Kong for a couple of days.

Hi, you need to apply for a tourist L with invitation letter from your friend. But if you want to visit Macao and Hongkong in between, then you may need at least a double entry L if you will reenter China.

Okay! I need a letter ... Really ...can this be an email and not particularly formal e-mail? And does it have to include the dates of my plan holiday or can it be quite simply "dude come visit!"?

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.

The invitation letter should include following details:
(1) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)
(2) Information on the planned visit (arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, etc.)
(3) Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, signature of the inviting individual)
A letter in the form of fax, photocopy or computer printout is acceptable for application.
