About:Soft Sleeper

Traveling with 5 person group

Hello, this summer (July 21-August 21) Me and five friends will be traveling China from Shanghai, Hangzhou, Huangshan, Shenzhen, Guilin, Chengdu, Dunhuang, and Xi'An. We're taking a combination of trains and buses, but mostly trains. It will be 4 men and 1 woman. We'd prefer to have a soft sleeper for trains over 12 hours. But they only have 4 beds per room. So I guess I have multiple questions.

1- How would we go about booking all in the same room/cabin?

2- Is there any way to squeeze 5 people in one room (even if 2 are comfortable sleeping in the same bunk)?

3- If we did decide to do Hard Sleeper, how "secure" would our baggage be? We will be having some valuable merchandise during our journey.

4- This is going to be a very touch and go vacation with playing by the ear days, so how far ahead should we be booking our tickets online before departure?

5- Any recommendations would be appreciated, thank you!

1. all the tickets are issued randomly by the ticketing system, so you are not guaranteed to stay in the same cabin. you will be closer to each other if you book earlier.
2. no, it is impossible for 5 adults in one soft sleeper room. what's more, the bunk is narrow and it is not enough for two.
3. Passengers put their luggage on the luggage rack or under the lower bunks. so I suggest that you carry your valuable items along with you in a small bag and put other things on the luggage rack. Just take it easy and pretend that you don't have anything valuable. Do not take too much cash with you.
4. tickets are put on sale 20 days in advance, so you'd better book more than 20 days in advance.
5. It will be very hot during your trip, so don't forget to bring with your sunglasses, sun cream. It may also rain, especially in the southern cities, so take an umbrella with you. I suggest that you do some preparation, learning some simple Chinese or print out the addresses hotels, railway stations, bus stations, or attactions.
