Yes, you are right. The closest subway line is the line 9 and the closest station is the Dapuqiao Station.

For sightseeing in SH, the Bund, the Huangpu River, the Yuyuan Garden, the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Xintiandi area, the Nanjing Road and SH Museum are highly suggested. Since your hotel is close to subway station, so you can use the local subway trains to cover all the places I metioned. These places are close to each other, so you can try to arrange the orders based on your time.

For night activities, you can go to the Bund area or Xintiandi area, because you can not only sightseeing the two places at night but also go to the bars at night. If you want to see the circus, you can go to the SH Circus, which can be reached by the local subway line 1. The show there is fantistic. (The subway line 1 is connected with line 9 at Xujiahui Station.)

Hope you can have a nice trip in SH.

What kind of things do you want to purchase?

Generally speaking, the market near the Yuyuan Garden is suggested. And there are many markets and malls along the Nanjing Road, so you can enter whenever you want.
