Possible to hike from Jinshanling to Simatai on May 26, 2014

Hello. I was hoping to hire a driver in Beijing to drop me off at Jinshanling and pick me up at Simatai, allowing me to hike between the two. Is this possible at the moment? There are conflicting reports about Simatai being off limits to hiking. If it is possible, where do I tell my driver to pick me up and how would I know when I am at that section of the wall?

yes, it is possible.
The Simatai Great Wall has been open to public, but reservation is required if you only climb the great wall. if you hike from Jinshanling, i don't think it will influence your trip, but i still suggest that you hire a guide as there are many folk roads and it is easy to get lost.

I was in Simatai last week and only 5 towers are open. Moreover if you don't have a reservation, price to climb is very high 110 rmb. Woman at the ticket office explained that jinshanling and simatai belong to different municipalities and so are managed differently and it is not possible to hike from one point to the other.
We also went to Jinshanling, which is much nicer than Simatai and advise all of you to go there. We had the confirmation that you can not hike all the way to simatai.
