About:Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

i have a 14 hour overnight stopover in Guangzhou airport

can I leave the airport and how long before my flight departs do I have to be back

Yes, you can leave the airport with your passport.
If your next flight is an international one, you are suggested to go back to the airport at least about two hours before the departure time. Usually, from the city proper area to the airport costs around 50 to 60 minutes if you do not meet the traffic jam.
