About:Chinese Consulates in Japan

Is it possible for a British citizen to apply for a tourist visa for China from within Japan?

If so, how long will it take? and how much will it cost?

Yes, you can apply in Japan. According to the website of Chinese embassy, the regular processing takes 4 working days, and fee for a single entry is Yen 4000. You can also use rush or express service, but you need to pay extra fee for it.
