Can I take a ferry from HK airport to Macau?

I understand that only passengers arriving at the airport by air can take this route to M. Does that mean that those staying near Tung Chung have to board the ferry in Kowloon?

Yes, you are right.
The Skypier is only available to passengers who land at HKIA by flights.
If you live in HK, you need to go to the Kowloon or Sheung Wan to take a ferry to M.
