Hi, both you and your mother are able to apply for Q type if you have a Chinese spouse. But if you plan to work, you have to apply for work Z and temporary residence permit based on your working contract.

Hi, thanks for the reply !! This means I cannot get any extra advantage of working or doing business in China if I am married to a Chinese. I just have to go by the normal way .. right ??

I'll give you the Q run downs:

If you wish to get a Q1 and covert it into a "Resident Permit (RP)" at the PSB (and you MUST) Your wife will need to have this amount of money in her China RMB Bank account:

A. Must have Y60,000 to get a 1 year RP.
B. Must have Y100,000 to get a 2 year RP.
C. Must have Y150,000 to get a 3 year RP.
D. Must have Y200,000 to get a 4-5 year RP.
Last: Must prepare a bank statement. VERY EASY.

Tips:

A.Your wife owning a House in China and in her name, not her familys will help reduce the amount of money required.

B. When you have the PSB interview for converting the Q into a Resident permit (RP) you should wear very nice professional clothes, NO Nike, No shorts, no short sleeves, sport clothes, no tennis shoes. You should show that you look like you can support yourself and not look like a backpacker.

C. Try your best to speak and use all the Chinese that you've learn, this will go along way and the PSB officer will like this very much. It's a sign of respect to them. Don't just sit there and let you wife do all the talking, say thank you and try to look thankful with good face expressions.

D. Better prepare more money encase adding your mom to the Q list requires more money from the PSB.

PS: Why do all of this? Because the officer in front of you is the one who decides how many years or long you get to stay in China.

My advice, put your mom on the Q and you should come here and work on a Z RP. Please don't risk your marriage and mom and yourself by working on a Q, someday some how some way you would be caught.. The best way to live in China forever is with a Z RP and a good job. No choice until laws change.

Oh one more thing: Being married for 5 years will help you get a Q much more easier.
