About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Weekend trip to China

I am an American & will be teaching in South Korea this year. I am wondering if I want to do a weekend trip to Hong Kong or Beijing, will the 72 hour rule apply to me (assuming the trip is under the 72 hr timeframe). Or is this only for people with layover flights & such?

Hi, if you fly from, for example, seoul-Beijing-HK, then you are able to avail 72 hr free transit in Beijing.
